Tia Juanita's Fish Camp

We all know that Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp makes a rockin’ fish taco, but what you might not know is that they’re in the brunch game now.

Every Sunday this Cajun/Mexican seafood eatery is servin’ up shrimp and crab quiche, migas, seafood omelets and Eggs Benedict to a town that’s seriously lacking in locally owned breakfast options. Good on ya, Tia Juanita. Now pass that plate of that French Toast Bananas Foster — we need more of that in our life.

Owner Ricky Martinez is the man behind the fish camp, and he’s got good things to say about their boudin quesadilla — how could such a thing not be amazing? Here’s what he had to say:

Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp is all about fish, shrimp and gumbo with a Cajun/Mexican twist.

Our menu is changing all the time. We’ve added shrimp and grits and blackened tilapia Pontchartrain to our dinner menu and now we have Sunday brunch With Chi Chi’s Eggs Benedict, migas, seafood quiche and Bananas Foster French Toast. Wow, it’s good stuff.

CAT5SERVICESTATION122514My favorite thing on the menu is our boudin quesadilla, a grilled flour tortilla stuffed with mozzarella cheese a touch of green onion and spicy smoked boudin with a side of guacamole, pico de gallo and jalapeno ranch. Of course everyone’s favorites are the fish tacos and the gumbo.

Our dessert menu includes Bananas Foster and bread pudding.

We now serve brunch every Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

My favorite adult beverage at Tia Juanita’s is $1 Tecate every Monday night.

My patrons may not know this about me but my first restaurant opened in 1985: Tiger Harry’s Diner in Magnolia, Ark., named after my first son, Tiger Harrison.

My customers may not know this about Tia Juanita’s but we cater, deliver and have gumbo by the gallon.

Our busiest times are lunch, Friday nights and Sunday brunch.

You gotta love the blackened fish and veggies with creamy pepper jack shrimp sauce and mango pina pico.

Did I mention I super appreciate Ceasar Chavez, who has been with me for six years now? And Francisco “Chi Chi” Guzman, who worked with me at Finch Hutton, And the fabulous super hostess Suzy Lalonde, my girlfriend and partner.

Our live music includes Scott McGill most Friday nights, He lives close by, loves our gumbo and he’ll be here Dec 26 starting at 6:30 p.m.

My favorite Thing about Southeast Texas is that it’s close to the beach, close to Houston and close to Louisiana.

When I’m not working, I can’t get enough Scott McGill and try to see my friend Tod Stark play whenever I can. Or I’m usually at my old Home, Cafe Del Rio, having a 3G margarita.
